ECMM Home Page East Coast Mobile Medical, or ECMM, was started in the mid 1990's in response to new US DOT regulations concerning drug and alcohol testing for truckers entering the US. ECMM set up a number of testing sites, called Collection Sites, throughout Atlantic Canada. Since their beginnings, ECMM has grown into a multi-faceted health and safety company providing a wide range of health and safety services.

In 2007, ECMM contracted with Tower Software Inc. to provide a new website that would be more than just an information site. ECMM wanted a public site to highlight and detail all the services they offered. They wanted to have full control of the content themselves so they would not have to rely on an outside web developer to make additions and changes. In addition to the public site, ECMM wanted a private password protected area for their collectors that could provide a variety of services. They wanted a second private area where their clients could order tests on line.

The graphical design for the website was done by Peter Eastwood of Eastwood Design. Once the graphical design for the pages was completed, and a site map was agreed upon by ECMM, Tower Software Inc. designed and programmed the components necessary to run the dynamic site.

The public area of the website provides all the content for public information such as Services, Locations, Links, General Info and Contact Information. The pages on the public site are dynamic and the information is served dynamically to templates. This gives ECMM the ability to keep all the information fresh.

Along with the public pages, Tower Software Inc. built three password protected areas for the website: Client Site, Collectors Site and ECMM Site Administration Site. Security for the site was accomplished with an SSL certificate purchased and installed by Tower Software Inc. so that all communications to the three restricted areas is encrypted to the same standard that is used by the banks. A database was set up to handle the collectors and clients who will log in to view their restricted areas.

The Collector Area

ECMM Collector's Page The collectors area provides a variety of services to the collectors:
  • Order Supplies Online - We set up an order form for all the collectors located throughout Atlantic Canada that allows them to order all their supplies on line. This cuts down on phone time that was required to collect the orders by phone.
  • Online Forms - PDF versions of commonly used forms are supplied in PDF format so that collectors will always have access to current forms.
  • Newsletter - Every month ECMM creates a newsletter to inform the collectors of updates, changes and business news. There is the current newsletter plus an archive of past newsletters, all available to collectors any time.


The Client Area

ECMM Client Page The clients area provides a variety of services to all of ECMM's clients:
  • Appointment Request Form - The most important component of the clients area is an online form that will allow clients to order tests for their employees. Once the form is completed, the client is asked to confirm the details and then the request is sent to ECMM. Every online test request received by ECMM results in one less phone call and a confirmed request by the client.
  • On-line Management Tool - There is a link to ECMM's in house random drug and alcohol software and database (by others) to allow employers to arrange for DOT required random testing.
  • Forms - Forms are provided for the convenience of clients as a download and are in PDF format.
  • Online Poll - ECMM can create their own polling questions for the Online Poll page. The poll results are sent to ECMM management.
  • Contact Us Form - To facilitate clients contacting ECMM personnel, there is a form that allows the client to choose the recipient of their contact request. This list of personnel is dynamic and is controlled by ECMM through their robust administration pages.


ECMM wanted a website they could control themselves and autmated forms that will save ECMM personnel time on the phone, giving more time for other activities. As the company grows, Tower Software Inc. will continue to develop tools and content to further enhance the visitors experience and save valuable time with online requests.
